Website Design for UK Small Businesses That Wins Enquiries
Our small business website design service gives UK firms a site built to bring in calls, quotes and bookings, not just a nice homepage. Every site is mobile-first, set up for Google from day one and yours to own outright. You get a fixed quote in pounds before any work starts.
- Mobile-first and quick to load
- You own the site and domain
- UK GDPR-ready cookie consent
- Fixed quote in pounds upfront
Websites built to bring in calls, quotes and bookings
Most small business websites fail for simple reasons. The phone number is hard to find on a mobile, the services are vague, and nothing tells a visitor which towns you cover. A customer who has just searched for a roofer in Bolton or a locksmith in Leeds will not hunt around. They press back and call the next business.
We design every page around one question: what does this visitor need to see before they get in touch? That means clear services, real photos of your work, your reviews, the areas you cover and an obvious way to call, message or request a quote on every screen. Design matters, but it serves the enquiry, not the other way round.
What's included in every UK small business website
Every site we build includes the technical basics that many cheaper builds leave out. These are not optional extras: they decide whether Google can understand your site, whether customers trust it on a phone and whether you can see which enquiries it produces. All of it is set out in your quote, so you know exactly what you are paying for.
- Mobile-first design that loads quickly on 4G
- SEO setup: page titles, descriptions, headings and local schema
- SSL security and sensible hosting
- Google Analytics 4, call tracking and form tracking
- A cookie banner with a genuine reject option
- Readable text, good contrast and accessible forms
Cookie consent, UK GDPR and PECR, done properly
In the UK, websites are covered by UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). In practice, that means you generally need consent before setting non-essential cookies, such as advertising and many analytics cookies, and visitors should be able to refuse as easily as they accept. A banner that only says “OK” does not do the job.
We set up a cookie banner that holds back tracking until a visitor agrees, link it to a clear privacy page and configure your analytics and ad tags to respect the choice. The Information Commissioner's Office updates its guidance from time to time, so we check it at build time rather than copying an old template. We are not lawyers, and for anything unusual we will suggest you take legal advice.
How much does a small business website cost in the UK?
The honest answer is that it depends on how many pages you need, whether you want online booking or a shop, and how much writing and photography we handle for you. A five-page site for a sole trader is a very different job from a multi-service site for a firm covering half a region.
Rather than a vague price list, we send a clear fixed quote in pounds sterling after a short conversation, with any VAT shown on the quote. It spells out what is included, what ongoing hosting and domain costs look like and what happens after launch. No hidden fees, no surprise invoices, and you own the website and domain from day one.
Websites for UK trades and service-area businesses
Many UK businesses do not trade from a shop. They travel to customers across a set of towns, so their website has to do the job a shopfront would: explain what they do, show where they work and make it easy to ask for a price. That needs service pages that answer real questions and area information that is genuinely useful, not dozens of copy-paste town pages.
Our UK client Ultra Doors Security, which supplies security doors, roller shutters and industrial doors across North West England, is a good example. A business like that needs each product explained clearly, the region it covers made obvious and a quote request a tap away. We build trades and service-area sites with exactly that structure.
Built for Google Maps, local SEO and AI search
A website does not work alone. Customers often find you on Google Maps first, check your Google Business Profile, then visit your site to decide. AI tools such as Google's AI Overviews and ChatGPT also read your site when they summarise who to call. If the details on each of these disagree, you lose trust with customers and with Google.
We build your site so your business name, address or service area and phone number match your Google Business Profile exactly. Clear headings, FAQ content and structured data make it easier for search engines and AI tools to understand what you do and where. If you later add SEO, Google Ads or AI optimisation, the foundations are already in place.

Landing pages in-house
We build landing pages ourselves for ads, offers or seasonal work, so they match your site and load quickly.
You own everything
Your website, domain and content are yours. If you ever leave, you take it all with you.
Why we understand how UK customers find local businesses
The UK economy runs on small firms. At the start of 2025 there were 5.7 million private sector businesses, and 99.2% of them had fewer than 50 employees (GOV.UK, Business population estimates 2025, published October 2025). Most are owner-run: the electrician covering a few towns, the clinic on a high street, the installer working across a county. That is who we build for, not big brands with marketing departments.
Our founder, AJ, has 20 years in marketing and learned the trade inside one of the big media agencies before choosing to work directly with business owners. UK customers search in a recognisable way: they go to Google first, type a service plus a town or postcode, tap a “near me” result on Google Maps, read the reviews, then call from their phone. Each step is a place you can win or lose the job, and we plan your marketing around every one of them.
We work with UK businesses remotely by WhatsApp, email and video call, with calls arranged around your working day. We do not have a UK office, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our UK client Ultra Doors Security, which supplies security doors, roller shutters and industrial doors across North West England, is a good example of the trades and service-area businesses we understand best: firms that cover a region, not a single shopfront.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a small business website cost in the UK?
It depends on the number of pages, features such as booking or ecommerce, and how much content we create for you. We do not publish a price list; instead we send a clear fixed quote in pounds sterling, with any VAT shown and no hidden fees. Hosting and domain costs are set out in the same quote.
How long does it take to build a website?
Timing depends mainly on the size of the site and how quickly we can gather your content, photos and feedback. We give you a timeline with your quote and keep you updated by WhatsApp or email as each stage is finished. Delays usually come from waiting on content, so we help you prepare it early.
Will I own my website and domain?
Yes. The domain is registered in your name and the website belongs to you. If you ever decide to move on, we hand over everything you need. We do not use lock-in contracts beyond what is written in your quote.
Will my website be optimised for Google and AI search?
Every site includes the SEO basics: clean page titles and descriptions, sensible headings, fast loading, local business schema and content that answers real customer questions. That structure also helps AI tools understand your business. Ongoing SEO or AI optimisation is a separate service if you want to push further.
Do you write the content and supply photos?
We can write the copy for you or polish what you already have, always in plain English. For photos, real pictures of your team, vans and finished jobs work far better than stock images, so we will guide you on what to take. Where gaps remain, we can use carefully chosen stock photos.
Is the website UK GDPR and cookie-law compliant?
We set up a cookie banner that holds back non-essential cookies until visitors agree and lets them refuse just as easily, plus a privacy page and correctly configured tracking. This follows UK GDPR and PECR as set out in current ICO guidance. We are not a law firm, so for unusual data uses we recommend legal advice.
Can you redesign my existing website without losing rankings?
Yes, with care. Before we change anything, we record the pages that currently bring in traffic, keep their content where it matters and set up redirects from old addresses to new ones. After launch we watch Google Search Console for errors and fix them quickly.
What does hosting and aftercare cost per month?
Ongoing hosting, domain renewal and any aftercare are set out clearly in your fixed quote, in pounds and with any VAT shown, so there are no surprises. You can also host the site yourself if you prefer, since you own it. Either way, you will know exactly what you pay and what you get.
